PURPOSE:To study the role of FFA in the diagnosis of macular diseases
METHODS:A 1 year cross sectional study of 70 patients.Thorough history, ocular and systemic examination followed by fluorescein angiography was performed.Ocular and fluorescein angiographic findings were analysed and categorized.
RESULTS:70 cases were categorized into ARMD,Diabetic maculopathy,Central serous retinopathy,Vascular occlusive disorders,Inflammatory and miscellaneous conditions.FFA altered the diagnosis in 48% of cases and categorized the lesions in all pathologies.4% patients had adverse reactions which were managed successfully. On statistical analysis FFA proved to be superior diagnostic modality than ophthalmoscopic examination.
CONCLUSION:FFA has played a major role in diagnosis of wet ARMD by detecting CNVM.It gives definitive diagnosis in CSCR by detecting exact leakage points. It differentiates macular edema and macular ischaemia in vascular diseases.FFA has immense value in diagnosing new vessels.
