Purpose: To evaluate outcomes of manual Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) in patients with corneal endothelial dysfunction.
Methods: A retrospective observational study of 54 charts of patients who had undergone DSEK at a tertiary eye care center.
Results: Mean follow-up duration was 11 months (range 1 to 40 month). At 6 month follow-up, a significant improvement (30% gain) was noted in BCVA (mean = 0.79 logMAR) compared with the preoperative BCVA (mean = 1.46 logMAR). At 6 month follow-up, about 80% of eyes followed had BCVA >= 0.8 logMAR.
Graft rejection was seen only in1 eye (1.85%) (single episode). Primary graft failure was seen in 7 eyes (12.96%). There were 2 cases (3.7%) of DSEK graft infection leading to endophthalmitis. Graft survival rate was 83%, both at 6month and at 12 month.
Presence of pre-existing glaucoma and surgery by novice surgeon had worse visual outcomes as compared to average.
