VT118 : Opportunistic Screening to Tackle Glaucoma Blindness – Experiences from a Tertiary Centre

According to studies done in South India, there is a 3-4% prevalence of glaucoma in the community, of which 93-95% goes undiagnosed. This is because a single normal intraocular pressure (IOP) does not rule out the disease. Significant portions of people with Primary Open Angle Glaucoma have a normal IOP and nearly 50% of the glaucoma’s are narrow angle glaucoma’s. It is not enough to simply screen people as they get older, there has to be ways to diagnose glaucoma earlier and save vision and the best way at this point of time is by doing opportunistic screening. This movie will highlight the different ways of opportunistic screening practiced by a tertiary eye care centre in south India to combat glaucoma blindness. Glaucoma screening at tertiary hospital, secondary care centers, primary care vision centers, outreach camps will be covered in this movie.
