Purpose: To compare the accuracy of various IOL power formulae in hyperopic eyes.
Methods: This retrospective study included eyes with axial length < 22.50mm who underwent cataract surgery between April 2016 to march 2017. Subjects with the history of previous refractive surgery were excluded. Ideal IOL power was calculated from postoperative refraction. IOL power calculated using different formulae (Hoffer Q, Barret, SRK/T, Haigis) were compared with ideal IOL power. Results: In 33 hyperopic eyes, mean (SD) age was 60± 11 years. The mean (SD) axial length was 21.44(0.57) mm. Median (IQR) error with Barretts, Hoffer, Haigis and SRK/T was 0.5 (0,1), 0.5 (0,1), 0.5 (0,1) and 0.0 (-1, 0.5) respectively. Post-op refractive error within ± 0.50 and 1.00D was most frequent using Barret formula (19 and 24 eyes respectively). Conclusion: Barret’s formula resulted in minimal post surgery refractive error as compared to other formulae in hyperopes.
