AIM
Comparison of efficacy of topical 1% VCZ & 5% NTM in treatment of fungal corneal ulcer
MATERIALS&METHOD
A randomized study was done comprising patients diagnosed with fungal corneal ulcer on smear/culture & divided randomly into 2 group of 20 patients
1st group received 5% NTM & 2nd group received 1% VCZ
RESULT
The treatment mean visual acuity (logMAR) was 1.32(0.55)&1.37(0.57)at 2 week & 1.23(0.54)&1.29(0.58)at 2 month in NTM & VCZ group respectively & was not statistically significant
The treatment mean infiltrate size was 4.138(0.78)&3.675(0.83) at 2 week & 3.685(1.03)&3.325(0.76)at 2 month in NTM & VCZ group respectively & was not statistically significant
The average time of resolution was less(27.3days)in NTM group which was statistically significant(p=0.034)
No. of cases of perforation in VCZ group was more & was statistically significant(p=0.023)
CONCLUSION
Average time of resolution & incidence of perforation is lesser in NTM group compared to VCZ group
