PURPOSE:To study the role of Penetrating Keratoplasty in different Corneal diseases in terms of Cure of disease,Visual Outcome,Complications, and Globe Integrity
MATERIALS AND MEHTODS: Its a hospital based study of 70 cases who underwent PK for Non healing Corneal Ulcers (56), Corneal dystrophy(14) from JULY 2015 TO JAN 2017. All cases underwent thorough Ophthalmic examination, B scanUSG and Microbiological evaluation . Follow up was done till 1.5year
RESULTS: Of 70 patients who underwent PK our observations :
Visual Outcome was good both in Optical and Therapeutic PK
Graft Clarity 26[37.14%] Graft failure 24[34.28%]Graft Rejection 18[25.71%]
Secondary Glaucoma 16[22.85%]Tectonic Success 21 of 22[95.45%]
Optical Success 12 of 14[85.71%] Therapeutic Success 22 of 34[64.70%]
CONCLUSION: Our study shows ,PK is a surgical boon and effective tool in management of chronic refractory corneal diseases, not only eliminates infection but also improve visual outcome and social life.
