PURPOSE: To compare the visual prognosis and dryness by uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity,TBUT, Schirmer in SMILE and FS-LASIK group in myopic patients
DESIGN:Prospective
METHODS: 30 eyes of SMILE and 30 eyes of FS-LASIK were followed up at postoperative day1,1,3,6 and 12months
RESULTS: Between the two groups UCVA ,BCVA and Spherical equaivalent showed no significance. But, TBUT and Schirmer’s value showed significance from 1month till 12months followup ( p value<0.001).At 3 months Schirmer’s value of SMILE group showed significant difference from FS-LASIK indicating early recovery. The TBUT and Schirmer’s value(p value 0.6) of SMILE group returned to preoperative value at 12months but the TBUT(p value<0.038) and Schirmer’s value(p value <0.001) of FS-LASIK did not return to preoperative value at the end of 12months. CONCLUSION : SMILE and FS-LASIK had similar visual outcome but SMILE patients showed early and better improvement in dryness compared to FS-LASIK.
