Retinal artery occlusion is an acute clinical condition resulting in unilateral sudden
painless profound visual loss. The purpose of the study is to understand the patient
profile and the presentation pattern in order to identify the high-risk factors.
Treatment of these factors may prevent second ocular or systemic vascular accident. 23 patients of Retinal Artery Occlusion (RAO) were included in the study. Thorough history-taking, clinical ocular examination followed by relevant ocular and systemic investigations were done in all patients. Nine of the 23 patients were younger than 51 years of age. Males were twice more affected than females. No patient reported within the golden 2 hours of onset of visual loss. Uncontrolled hypertension was a risk factor in 82% patient. Central RAO was the commonest presentation followed by combined CRAO+CRVO. OCT Macula, showing inner layer hyper-reflectivity was a confirmatory noninvasive investigation.
