Methods: it is a retrospective cohort study. First group (CA) included 108 eyes of 92 patients who underwent conjunctival autograft with 10-0vicryl in the period between January 2014 to December 2015. Second group (F) included 384 eyes of 340 patients who underwent fugo blade excision. The conjunctiva was approximated using single steel suture of 40mic. Bandage contact lens was applied. Postoperative 0.02% MMC prepared in CMC drops was used 3 times a day for 10 days. After 10 days BCL was removed and MMC application was stopped.
Results: Average pain score at 10 days was 3.5+/- 1.1 and 1.1+/-0.8 in CA and F group respectively(p<0.001) . No recurrence was noted in both groups in 3 months. Granuloma was noted in 1 eye in CA group which required excision. Conclusions: Dr Daljit Singh’s technique of Fugo blade excision with MMC gives significantly better patient comfort and cosmesis post pterygium excision as compared to conventional conjunctival autograft and also reduces surgical time.
