Purpose: To evaluate Posterior Corneal Curvature profile in Indian population.
Methods: 100 subjects aged 40-80 yrs underwent corneal curvature evaluation by Schiempflug imaging. The data was evaluated for posterior corneal curvature and astigmatism.
Results: The Mean Posterior Corneal Keratometry was -6.39D, the Mean Posterior Corneal Astigmatism was 0.28D. The Posterior Corneal Curvature was found to be Steep Vertically in 60 % subjects. 22% had Oblique Steep Axis and 18% had Steep Axis Horizontally.
We evaluated the correlation between Anterior and Posterior corneal curvatures. The Coefficient of Correlation (CoC) between Mean Anterior K-value and Mean Posterior K-value, Mean anterior astigmatism and posterior corneal astigmatism and Anterior Flat axis and Posterior Flat axis showed weak correlation.
Conclusion: The importance of posterior corneal curvature profile cannot be underestimated. Further quantification is required for customization of database for Indian population.
