INTRODUCTION:Ectopia lentis(EL) refers to displacement of crystalline lens. The purpose of this study is to evaluate visual outcome(VO) following surgery in EL.
METHODS:In this retrospective review, demographic parameters, history, systemic & ocular examination recorded as best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA),anterior & posterior segment evaluation.Patients underwent lens extraction with or without intraocular lens(IOL) implantation.Data was retrieved & analysed using SPSS22. Pre op BCVA was compared with Post op BCVA.
RESULTS:Of 72 eyes,40 were OD & 32 OS.Mean age was 45±21 years.Traumatic were 38(53%),congenital 4(6%),spontaneous 8(11%) & iatrogenic 22(31%). IOL was placed in sulcus (21%), AC (1%) & scleral fixated(58%), 18% were left aphakic. Significant association was found between pre & post op BCVA(p=0.018)& no association between post op BCVA & IOL position(p=0.377).
CONCLUSIONS: Surgery resulted in significant improvement; Position of IOL has no association with visual outcome.
