We studied thirty-one consecutive patients undergoing SFIOL with the modified Yamane’s technique.Modified Yamane’s technique of transconjunctival intrascleral IOL fixation involved use of 26/27 gauge needle wherein we first externalize one haptic and fix it outside. Also we used Mcphersons forceps to hold the trailing haptic.Visual acuity improved from median of 1.48 logMAR units (IQR=1.3 – 2 logMAR) at baseline to 0.3 logMAR (IQR=0.2 – 0.4 logMAR) at 6weeks (p<0.001) which was maintained at 3 months. There were no significant changes in endothelial cell density (p=0.34) and OCT based macular thickness (p=0.31) at 3 months. Our initial experience suggests that the modified Yamane’s technique for SFIOL is a simple procedure and is independent of scleral flaps, tunnels, sutures and fibrin glue.It has a short learning curve, is a potentially quicker surgery and has faster postoperative recovery with excellent visual outcomes.
