PVR is the most common cause of failure of RD surgery. Even after removal of PVR membranes, if residual contraction of the retina is present, one needs to resort to Retinotomy. It was done by scissors in the past & is often done with the vitrector now. However bleeding during retinotomy is a common complication which limits the surgical results. We present the novel technique of B.E.S.T. (Bloodless, Easy, Safe, Technique of) Retinotomy, using a flute needle so as to prevent bleeding during retinotomy. This VAST (Video assisted skill transfer) presentation will allow any retina surgeon to easily implement the novel technique.
