Approach to a child with cataract differs greatly from that in adults. For a new resident or an ophthalmologist, who hasn’t been exposed to this, it is quite perplexing. This video demonstrates the beginner’s perspective in providing the appropriate planning and management for a child with cataract. A child is not just a miniature adult but the rest of his life lies ahead, needing to account for growth. It describes the decision making regarding the timing and choice of surgical procedure, tips and tricks of critical surgical steps and difference from those in adult cataract surgery. It will focus on the post-operative rehabilitation and management of large refractive errors, dense amblyopia. As a resident, I have learned the complexities that were involved while tailoring management plans.
