Aim: to study visual and refractive outcome of iris claw IOLs in the management of monocular aphakia.
Methods:
In this prospective, case series study,60 eyes of 60 unilaterally aphakic patients (Age :45-80 yrs) opting for secondary posterior iris claw IOL implantation surgery were recruited.Pre and post operative UCVA, BCVA, spherical equivalents (SE),IOP and complications were noted and followed till 6 months.
Results:
BCVA is improved significantly from 59.32% to 96.6% of population having vision >6/18 (p=0.0001).Post operative mean SE is improved from 10.71 to -0.69 (p=0.00) whereas astigmatism increased from 28.8% to 42.4% due to lens tilt.Iris claw lens may lead complications like pigment dispersion, iris shaffing, pupil ovalization, decentration or tilting of IOL and rarely macular edema and retinal detachment.
Conclusion:
Secondary retropupillary iris claw IOL implantation is a safe and effective method for the correction of aphakia in patients without capsule support.
