Introduction: Macular edema an important cause of reduced vision following cataract surgery. We aim to compare the BCVA after uncomplicated Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery and Phacoemulsification in normal eyes.
Method:In this retroprospective review; pre op history, thorough ocular examination & OCT of patients who underwent cataract surgery were recorded; In post-op, patients with Snellen’s BCVA 6/6 included & their slit lamp examination and OCT done on each f’up. Data was retrieved & analysed using SPSS22 . Post op (3rd month) BCVA was compared with preop BCVA who underwent cataract surgery( SICS or Phacoemulsification)by single experienced surgeon.
Results: Of 262 eyes,90(34%) eyes underwent SICS &l72 (66%)underwent phacoemulsification. 67(74 %) & 142 (82%) eyes attained postop (3rd month) BCVA 6/6 from SICS & Phaco group respectively. ( p value- 0.072)
Conclusion: No significant variation in preop & postop 3rd month BCVA based on type of cataract surgery.(SICS vs PHACO).
