AIM-To study the correlation of dry eye with disease severity in SLE patients.
METHOD-A prospective study included 32 referred SLE patients was conducted between September’16- March’17.History taken, tear film break up time,schirmer test,fluoroscent& rose bengal staining of cornea and conjunctiva done, slit lamp exam,serum autoantibody level noted,artificial tear substitute given & pt reviewed after 1 month
RESULT-TBUT found less than 10 sec in 78% patients. Schrimer test showed less than 10 mm wetting without topical anaesthesia in 62%patients.37% had rose Bengal +ve conjunctiva,31% patients showed punctate erosions in cornea.6% patient had mucus plaque in cornea.All Patients managed with tear substitutes, pt with severe dry eye(TBUT&SCHIRMER TEST finding) were not improved whose sr autoantibody titre were high,hence were added 0.1% Fluorometholone eye drops,they improved.
Conclusion –Severity of dry eye could be a window to evaluate the severity in SLE pt.
