INTRODUCTION:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcomes in traumatic childhood cataract in western India.
METHODS:In this retrospective series,history including type of injury in paediatric pts with traumatic cataract were recorded; ocular examination included BCVA, slit-lamp and BIO.Patients underwent cataract surgery with or without IOL implantation. Data taken from the EMR and BCVA was compared for Pre&Post op and analysed using SPSS22.
RESULTS:Out of 1076 eyes, 762 were male and 314 were female, Mean age was 2 years.919 were pseudophakic, 157 were aphakic. PPC was done in 329.(90%) cases were limited to zone1,(9.6%),zone2 and 4,(0.4%) zone 3.antr vitrectomy was done in 516.Significant correlation found between the age of injury and visual outcome(p=0.0). & pre and post op BCVA following surgical management.
CONCLUSIONS:Cataract extraction resulted in significant visual improvement; Age of injury and zone involvement significantly correlates with post op visual outcome.
