Aim: To report a case of outer macular hole following exposure to laser pointer. Study design: Case report.Summary:19 year-old-male presented with right eye blurring of vision since 10 days. His best corrected visual acuity was 6/24 in right eye and 6/6 in left eye. He gave history of accidentally staring at a laser pointer beam 10 days back. Fundus examination of right eye revealed dull foveal reflex with yellowish discoloration. Optical coherence tomography revealed a localised, subfoveal, hyporeflective area in the ellipsoid zone and photoreceptor outer segments. Based on history, clinical findings and investigations, the diagnosis of laser pointer induced outer macular hole was made. Conclusion: Laser pointer beam can cause photo-thermal injury to the retina which may resolve over time or can progress to vision threatening complications. This case highlights the importance of public awareness and strict implementation of safety regulations to prevent such complications.
