In children with cerebral visual impairment, functional vision assessment forms the cornerstone of further management and integrated rehabilitation of the child. However, this is not an easy task and requires a special setting and techniques that are not taught during the course of formal medical education. We have selected a few tests from literature and attempted to demonstrate through this video the techniques that we found most useful.
We have demonstrated few tests to assess optimal distance of visual communication, threshold line thickness and separation, contrast sensitivity, visual field, latency and span of visual attention.
We found these tests useful to assess parameters of functional vision that matter for an infant and can be easily explained to parents so that they can use them in daily routines of the child. This video helps eye care professionals to assess functional vision in young children with severe CVI.
