Purpose:To report the difficulties and results of cataract surgery, in traumatic cataract caused by intravitreal injections(IVI).
Methods:Prospective study of 11 cases of tra.cataract after IVI between July 2014 to June 2016.After slit lamp examinations,AS OCT & B Scan was done.Phaco was done using low parameters.Anterior vitrectomy was done when needed & was converted to large incision,if required.3 piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL(MPIOL) or single piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL(SPIOL) was implanted depending upon capsular support.
Results: Out of 11 patients.2 had received ozurdex whereas 9 either Bevacizumab,Ranibizumab or Triamcinoloe IVI.All presented within 5-30 days of IVI with PC rent with total or partial cataract.2 patients required coversion to larger incision.MPIOL in sulcus was implanted in 8 eyes & SPIOL in the bag in 3 eyes.Ant. vitrectomy in 9 eyes.Vision at 3 months ranged from 1/60 to 6/9.
Conclusions:Cataract surgery following IVI trauma requires cautious approach.
