-Raised IOP & Glaucoma in patients with uveitis is a multifactorial process (complication of ocular inflammation).
-Both directly and by the induction of structural changes, inflammation in the eye can alter the aqueous humour dynamics resulting in raise or normal ,decrease IOP.
Glaucoma associated with anterior uveitis
(1) Angle closure with pupil block.
(2) Angle closure without pupil block.
(3) Open angle.
(4) Specific hypertensive uveitis syndrome.
Fuchs uveitis syndrome.
Posner- Schlossman syndrome etc
Secondary glaucomas form a large proportion of the glaucomas seen in any practice, especially in developing countries.
The attending ophthalmologist treats the primary cause but often an undiagnosed secondary glaucoma leads to a substantial loss of vision before it is identified and specific therapy instituted.
Proper assessment of all cases presenting with raised IOP is the key to successful management of glaucoma.
