PURPOSE: To study the ocular features, complications, visual prognosis, treatment outcomes and HLA association of Behçet’s disease in a tertiary care ophthalmic centre. METHODS: Retrospective case series of 66 eyes of 36 patients with Behcet’s disease. RESULTS: 34 patients (94.4%) had ocular involvement of which 94% were bilateral. 6 (17.6%) patients had anterior uveitis, while 10 (29.4%) had posterior uveitis and 18 (52.9%) had panuveitis. Anterior uveitis was non-granulomatous with mobile hypopyon. Posterior segment manifestations were vitritis in 41 eyes (73.2%), followed by vasculitis in 32 (57.1%) and CME in 15 (22.7%). 7 (19%) patients were positive for HLAB51. Complications were seen in 51 eyes (31.8%), commonest being cataract in 30 (45.4%) eyes, cystoid macular edema in 15 (22.7%) eyes and neovascularization of the iris in 6 (9%) eyes. CONCLUSION: Behçet’s disease should be considered as a differential diagnosis in patients with bilateral panuveitis.
