Aim: To determine weightage of education, socio economic status, distance from hospital and underlying medical illness in follow up of patients with glaucoma.
Method: Follow up records of 110 patients (males-70, females- 40) with glaucoma who were either treated or not were reviewed. Neural network was constructed to see the contribution of various factors using multilayer perceptron.
Results: Follow up in educated patients (>12th class) was 64% and in lesser educated patients was 36%. Follow up in low socio-economic group was average (50%). With distance from hospital <50km it was 71% & distance >250km it was 66%. Patients with underlying medical illness had poor follow up(6%).The contribution of various factors to follow up was, education(45%),socio-economic status(21%),distance from hospital(19%) and underlying illnesses(15%).
Conclusion: Loss to follow up of glaucoma patients can be prevented by knowing the importance of various factors and taking necessary measures.
