Purpose : To analyse the outcome of aphakic correction with retrofixated iris claw lenses after lens extraction in children with subluxated lens in Marfan’s syndrome.
Material and Method : During the period between 2011 and 2014, 9 children, who presented with defective vision due to subluxated lens bisecting the pupil were taken up for surgery after full ophthalmic and systemic evaluation. All had retrofixated iris claw implantation as a primary procedure. They were followed up for a period of up to 3 years.
Results : 18 eyes of 9 children age ranging from 8 years to 13 years (mean age 10.44) , 5 girls and 4 boys were operated.Their BCVA ranging from 0.8 to 1.5 logMAR preoperatively.Postoperatively the best corrected VA improved to a mean logMAR .35(0.2 to 0.5)Discussion: Various options for IOL implantation for eyes with no capsular support, have their own innate problems .None have been the perfect solution.
Conclusion : Iris claw IOLs are a good option for children with subluxated lenses.
