Purpose: To describe clinical features and outcome of eyes with acute retinal necrosis (ARN). Method: 13 eyes of 10 patients newly diagnosed as ARN from 1 Jan 2013 to 31 Jan 2016 were retrospectively analysed. Results: The mean age was 39.9 years (R = 15-58 years). Male to female ratio was 4:1. 6 (60%) had immunosuppression. 5 (50%) had history of chickenpox. All were peripheral retinitis with no macular involvement. 3 (30%) had bilateral retinitis. PCR of 4 eyes was positive in 2 (CMV 1 and VZV 1). 3 (25%) had retinal detachment, 1 (serous) at presentation and 2 (rhegmatogenous) developed after 45 days of treatment. One had re-detachment. PPV was done in 3 (25%). Intravitreal Ganciclovir was given in 2 eyes. Prophylactic laser was given in 2 (16%) eyes. The follow up ranged from 2-24 months (mean = 6 months). Favourable functional outcome of BCVA > 6/60 was observed in 4 (33%). Conclusion: With ARN as a fulminant disease early and aggressive treatment helps in better visual outcome.
