Introduction : Valsalva Retinopathy presents as a sub-hyaloid or sub-internal limiting membrane macular hemorrhage, caused by a sudden increase in intrathoracic or intra abdominal pressure leading to increased intraocular venous pressure with rupture of the superficial retinal capillaries.
Case Report : A 25 years female presented with sudden painless diminution of vision in left eye since 1 week.Vision in left eye was CF2mts.Anterior segment of both eyes and IOP was normal.Ophthalmoscopy of left eye revealed Large Sub-hyaloid Haemorrhage temporal to the disc involving the macula. The patient was advised rest and NSAIDs eye drops 4 times/day.After 4 weeks vision improved to 6/36 and fundoscopy revealed a large central pre-retinal hemorrhage.
Conclusion : The visual prognosis in Valsalva retinopathy is usually great and resolution of the hemorrhage occurs within weeks to months. Surgical intervention often hastens recovery in large haemorrhages involving the area of macula.
