Phthiriasis palpebrarum is a very rare infestation of
eyelashes by crab louse (Pthirus pubis). Frequently
patient presents with itching in early stages to squamous
blepharoconjunctivitis in severe cases. It is transmitted
most commonly by close contact with another human, which can be sexual in adults or nonsexual
when hygiene is compromised. Infestation is considered
marker for other sexually transmitted infection
like HIV & Gonorrhea. Here we report a case of 70
year old male presenting with squamous blepharoconjunctivitis
caused due to Pthirus Pubis infestation
without involving any other body parts, which is a
very rare manifestation of Phthiriasis palpebrarum.
Diagnosis of Phthiriasis palpebra rum is easy and
requires good clinical examination with diagnostic
wet mount microscopy in patients with a high index
of suspicion.
