PURPOSE: To correlate IOL induced astigmatism with the placement of IOL following manual SICS.
METHODOLOGY: This was a hospital-based, observational study on 237 eyes of 205 patients. One week following SICS, the site of placement of IOL was assessed by slit lamp examination and the IOL induced astigmatism (LIA) was calculated for each case by subtracting the postoperative keratometry from the total postoperative refraction corrected for back vertex distance after converting net astigmatism into polar values. The mean LIA was calculated for each of the in the bag, in the sulcus and bag – sulcus placed IOLs goups.
RESULTS: Analysis using ANOVA showed the mean LIA was statistically significantly higher, in eyes with bag-sulcus placed (2.35 ± 3.36) and sulcus placed (2.61 ± 3.74) PCIOLs as compared to bag placement (1.34 ± 2.18). (P= 0.018)
CONCLUSION: LIA following manual SICS is the least with bag placed IOLs, more with bag-sulcus and most with sulcus placed IOLs.
