AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
To study the etiology of the papilloedema, optic disc changes and stages of papilloedema & to evaluate visual outcome in patients of papilloedema.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
It is a prospective hospital based study.
A total of 50 patients attending the Ophthalmology OPD were studied. A detailed study of the age, etiology, anterior segment findings, fundus findings and BCVA was done.
Patients who presented with papilloedema from all age groups and both sexes and giving consent were included in the study.
All patients were assessed for visual acuity, colour vision, contrast sensitivity and intraocular tension. Slit lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy was done for all patients.
Conclusion: Space occupying lesion is most common etiological factor for early and established cases of papilloedema while intracranial infection is most common etiological factor for chronic stage of papilloedema.
