AIM-To study the CCT in DM pts and its relationship with glycemic control(HbA1c levels).
DESIGN-Single centre prospective clinical trial with mean of 6 mnth follow-up.
METHOD-65 pts of type 2 DM(M:F=36:29) with HbA1c levels>7% indicating poor glycemic control were included. Duration of DM recorded. CCT measurement recorded after mean of 3 readings taken using ultrasound pachymetry. Pts were referred to endocrinology for control of glycemic status. When HbA1c levels<7%, CCT was recorded again. CCT & HbA1c before & after t/t were compared. RESULT-Before t/t(Mean CCT-552.30±29.26µm & HbA1c-9.36±1.79%). After t/t(Mean CCT-542.36±27.20µm & mean HbA1c-6.45±0.76%).Difference b/w these 2 values was statistically significant (p=0.0001,paired t test). CONCLUSION-Even though mean CCT of hyperglycemic & euglycemic were in normal range, CCT decreases significantly by lowering HbA1c levels. Thus glycemic status have to be considered when examining DM pts especially when IOP recordings are made.
