Purpose-To determine effectiveness of IV methyl prednisolone(MP) in management of TON patients.
Methods-Retrospective study of 44 patients with TON from jan2014-dec 2016 was done.Baseline visual acuity(VA),clinical profile were recorded.Visual outcome in patients managed with 1g of IV MP for 3 days followed by 1mg/kg oral prednisolone in tapering dose over 2 weeks were noted.Paired proportion test was used to find significance of patients with >=2 line improvement from baseline VA.
Results-30 of 44 patients had baseline VA <=6/60.One month post therapy,VA was ranging from 6/36-6/6 in 28 patients of which those ranging between 6/12-6/18 and 6/6-6/9 were seen to be statistically significant(p=0.017&p=0.006) Conclusion-52.2% of patients managed with the above regimen had statistically significant visual improvement.Patients with baseline VA>CF showed maximum response.No major side effects of the above regimen were noted.
