Dr.Cyres Keiki Mehta
Femto second laser cataract surgery (FLACS)is here to stay. The palatability of the procedure as a marketing tool is unquestionable BUT it certainly isn’t as simple as its made out to be. Transitioning from phaco to FLACS can be challenging.
1.Deciding which case to select for FLACS-Every case isn’t apt especially for a phaco surgeon who I s already facing difficulty with complicated cases
2.How to decide whether to make the incision by blade or femto as sometimes the diamond may make a better tunnel .
3.How to deal with a small pupil and decide rhexis size and fragmentation strategies depending on grade of cataract.
4.How much safety margin to keep so that the PC is unaffected and cortical cleanup is easier
5.How to use the laser LRI to your benefit by nullifying astigmatism thus decreasing your dependence on toric lenses
These strategies and more will be taught so that the phaco surgeon can safely convert and transition without slipping on vitreous into a FLACS master!
