Dr.PURVASHA NARANG
Corneal transplantation has come a long way since the inception of its concept. Penetrating keratoplasty (PK) has stood the test of time and is still one of the most widely performed transplants. Latest advances in surgical techniques allow successful transplantation of specific layers of the cornea like Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK), Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) etc. The appropriate post-operative care of these transplants is probably more important than the surgery itself in determining the long-term outcomes. Typically, prolonged duration of treatment and follow-up of these grafts is needed. The patients usually prefer to follow-up at the ophthalmologists’ clinics closest to them and it is the need of the hour to recognize the danger signs and manage them accordingly. This course is aimed to help you make the difference between the final success and failure of the corneal graft.
