AIM:To compare the challenges of anophthalmic socket reconstruction in pediatric and adult population METHOD:5pediatric and17adult patients were studied.Number of procedures and time duration for adequate cosmetic results are compared
RESULT4stages of procedure was required for a child,3stages of procedure for an adult and a child before prosthesis. We were able to fit prosthesis on9adult patients and on a child directly and on6adults with one stage procedure.2children one after2procedures and another after3procedures had contracted sockets. An adult patient was prescribed spectacle mount prosthesis. The number of procedures were found to be more in pediatric group(p.006 fisher exact test
CONCLUSION:Management of pediatric cases are definitely more challenging and time consuming than adult patients.Persisting intraocular resistance in the form of pressure conformer is found to be useful. But repeated surgeries under GA&more chances of failure, leads to emotional constraints
