This study aims at finding out the epidemiology of ocular trauma and its association with different risk factors such as age, sex, occupation, circumstance of injury, object etc and also the prognosis of ocular trauma according to the same . Most of the eye injuries occurred in age group 30-50yrs (p<0.01).The incidence of trauma was 6 per 1000 population. (38%) of patients discharged from follow up had poor visual outcome. The prognosis of patients with initial VA>6/12 was good (p<0.01). Visual prognosis was better in closed globe injuries(60%). The prognosis of patients presenting before 48hrs was significantly better as compared to those presenting late. Very few population-based studies in India and abroad have documented the incidence of ocular trauma. The study concluded that ocular trauma remains an important cause of avoidable and predominantly monocular visual morbidity, with over half of the blinding injuries occurring while playing or while doing recreational activities.
