Purpose To assess difficulty encountered in the diagnosis and management of PSD
Method Retrospective study of medical records of all patients attending eye OPD in a tertiary care centre from June 2015 to May 2017 to assess the disease pattern, management offered and barriers to ensure ideal management with respect to PSD. PSD categorised as vascular, acquired macular, hereditary, vitreous & optic nerve diseases & retinal detachments
Results A total of 8579 records analysed. 43% belonged to the 19-40 years’ age group. Refractive errors (27%) & cataract (20%) commonest among anterior segment diseases. 26% had posterior segment diseases of which 31.24% had to be referred for management.
Conclusion Need of the hour is to ensure posterior segment setup and availability of a trained VR surgeon in every tertiary care centre to ensure quality care.
