AIM: To report incidence, etiology & management of cranial nerve palsies in children presenting to paediatric & neurophthalmology clinics. Methods: Retrospective analysis of children ( 0-16 yrs), over period of 3years (2010- 2013) diagnosed with 3rd, 4th, 6th, & 7th cranial nerve palsies. Complete neuro-ophthalmological evaluation including neuro-imaging was done. Results: Total cases seen in paediatric clinic were 53,025; of these 30 cases were identified .Incidence was 5.65/10,000 cases. 57 % were boys.Cases with 3rd nerve palsy were 10 (33%);6th nerve palsy 8 (27%);4th nerve palsy 5(17%), 7th nerve palsy 4(13%); multiple cranial nerve palsies 3(10%). In our study 3rd cranial nerve palsy was the most common. Most common cause being trauma (40%) followed by idopathic (26.67). 90% cases were medically managed and 10% needed surgery. Conclusion: Trauma was the most common cause for cranial nerve palsy in this age group. Neuroimaging is mandatory for these cases in paediatric age group.
