PP99 : Post-LASIK ectasia in a patient of Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy : A Rare Case Report

A 25 yr lady presented for LASIK. Her BCVA was 6/6 with a correction of -7.50DS in both eyes. Anterior segment revealed no evidence of any corneal dystrophy. Intra-operatively, the patient developed large central epithelial defect in both eyes and a diagnosis of Epithelial Basement Membrane Dystrophy became evident. Excimer laser application was done under the intact flap. In the post-operative period, Bandage Contact Lenses were given.

The patient complained of gradual decrease in vision 18 months later, the BCVA decreased to 6/12 in the RE and 6/36 in the LE. Anterior Segment OCT and Corneal topography revealed post LASIK ectasia in the LE.

The patient was taken up for Trans-epithelial Collagen Cross-linking of the cornea in the LE. Residual astigmatism was corrected with Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses in both eyes. The patient has been followed up at 3 monthly intervals for the last 6 years, and she has maintained a BCVA of 6/9 in the RE, and 6/12 in the LE.
