AIM- surgical procedure adopted while managing a case of traumatic cataract after closed globe injuries(CGI) and challenges faced.
MATERIALS AND METHODS –surgical technique selected according to morphology and condition of tissue.Phacoemulsification used to operate on cataracts with hard, large nuclei. With soft, rosette type cataract, bimanual aspiration used.Anterior dislocation of lens into anterior chamber requires emergency surgery for its removal to avoid pupillary block glaucoma.Pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy done in cases of posterior capsular rupture, posterior dislocation or extreme zonular instability.Primary posterior capsulectomy and vitrectomy considered in children as well as in adult. Suture fixation of lens chosen if both capsular and zonular supports insufficient.
CONCLUSION – Planning surgical approach is of utmost importance in traumatic cataract following CGI.
