Surgical management of Ozurdex implant in crystalline lens with diabetic macular edema. A known diabetic patient reported with diabetic macular edema and non proliferative diabetic retinopathy in both eyes with baseline vision of 6/18, N 12 in the right eye and 4/60, N 24 in the left eye. Patient was advised to take injection Ozurdex in both eyes. Injection was given in the left eye first. Ozurdex implant was misdirected into crystalline lens instead of vitreous cavity. Patient was then taken up for phacoemulsification with intra ocular lens implantation along with vitrectomy with PVD induction.
It was a challenge to preserve the Ozurdex implant while doing Phacoemulsification and vitrectomy. Successfully the case was managed and implant was placed in vitreous cavity.
