The challenge of handling uncooperative patient is beyond our description.Multiple risk factors set up a stage for the patient being uncooperative during examination and unwilling to undergo proper treatment. These includes economy, illiteracy, dependency, hard of hearing, language barrier, panic of instrumental ophthalmic examinations, associated systemic illness etc. Targeted attention on these risk factors would go long way to alleviate the suffering of both patients and doctors. Establishing good rapport and communicating skills including extra verbal communication are the key elements for managing difficult situation. All these efforts should help in eliciting cooperation for utilizing treatment.
