Background: – An IOFB is any material, organic, or inorganic, which penetrates into the ocular tissue. IOFB may be classified as metallic or non-metallic, with the metallic being divided into magnetic & nonmagnetic. Intraocular foreign bodies can cause mechanical & also chemical injury if they contain iron (siderosis) or copper (Chalcosis), but the most important risk of a retained foreign body is infection. . IOFB of inert material (stone, plastic, glass, & inert metals like gold, silver, and platinum) excite minimum inflammation & may remain quiescent for a long period.
Methods:-Presenting various cases of anterior segment IOFB. Common presentation encountered were, retained IOFB in ac, endophthalmitis, hyphema, iridodialysis, corneal tear, traumatic cataract. Patients were evaluated & managed accordingly.
Conclusion: – IOFBs need prompt evaluation & management as they may quickly lead to sight-threatening complications.
