Cataract surgery is commonly required after vitreous surgery especially in patients having pre existing lenticular changes. Many such cases are performed in a 2 step manner with preparatory phacoemulsification before the primary retinal surgery ,which in some cases adversely affects the visual outcome because of the delay between the two surgeries (especially in cases of retinal detachment) .
In addition separate surgeries frequently increase the morbidity & recovery time for the patient. In the era of suture less vitrectomy (MIVS) and phacoemulsification ( MICS) ,combined approach in many cases result in improved outcomes & faster rehabilitation. This video assisted course will highlight the indications, techniques and management of complications for combined surgeries. The course will also highlight basic port making ,anterior vitrectomy techniques useful for cataract surgeons and pearls for phaco-emusification in vitrectomised eyes.
