Cornea diagnostics are indispensable in the evaluation of basic corneal conditions, the principles of instruments used in diagnosis, the need for diagnostic tests and interpretation of the reports. Both invasive and noninvasive modalities are available to diagnose, monitor, and further our basic understanding of the diseases of the cornea. A competent user must know more than the basic application.
Thus, routine diagnostic procedures are critical in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal disorders. The more commonly utilised cornea diagnostics includeSlit lamp Biomicroscopy, Corneal Staining techniques, Tear Film Evaluation and Tear Film Function Test,Keratometry,Pachymetry,Corneal Topography,Specular Microscopy, Anterior Segment OCT and UBM(ultrasound biometry). Laboratory investigations are indicated in microbial keratitis.
An astounding array of investigative procedures are available but, a judicious use of the same is necessary for making a conclusive diagnosis. A good documentation is mandatory with the aid of corneal diagrams as well as slit lamp photography an extremely rewarding tool made easy with modern day gadgets.
