Aim- To study the pattern of occurence and burden of ocular diseases.
Material & method- We have conducted a prospective study on patients admitted in ophthalmology department of tertiary health care center from Jan2016- june2016. Data on age, sex, locality, clinical presentation, diagnosis & management were recorded & analysed.
Result- Total 960 patients of all age with a sex ratio of 1:1( M:F= 475:485). Out of which maximum no. of patients are of cataract-788(82.08%)> Infectious diseases- 46(4.79%) > Neuroretinal diseases- 42 (4.37%) > Ocular trauma- 32(3.33%) > Glaucoma- 17(1.77%) > ocular tumour-4(i.e.0.41%). In all ocular diseases the maximum no. of patients are from urban area(491i.e.51.14%) and minimum from remote area (0). Causes of unequal distribution of disease pattern is unawreness & social disparities.
Conclusion- The prevalent eye disease recorded here is cataract in chhattisgarh , which is a preventable eye disease.
