Keratoconus is a relatively common association in Downs syndrome, occurring in 0.5 – 1 % of patients. Choroidal coloboma is a rare association in Downs syndrome, and reported in literature. Co-existence of both conditions in downs syndrome is rare and has not been reported.
Methodology and Result
We report a 15 year old female, with downs syndrome, and mental retardation with dimision of vision. On examination, she had keratoconus in both eyes, with rt eye having choroidal coloboma and corneal scarring, left having iridofundal coloboma and keratoconus.
Rt eye corneal transplant and left eye C3R, with laser for coloboma in both eyes was done. At follow up, rt graft was doing well, patient had ucva of 6/36 and 6/24 in od and os, and retina was well attached.
Conclusion
Though a rare association, choroidal coloboma can be seen co-existent with keratoconus in Downs syndrome cases.
