AIM: To present a series of 24 cases of Microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis in a tertiary eye care centre. DESIGN: Retrospective non comparative case series. METHOD: The individuals were evaluated based on symptoms, visual acuity, slit lamp bio microscopy and microbiological examination of corneal scrapping. RESULT: In all cases initial symptoms included pain and redness. Slit lamp bio microscopy revealed coarse, multifocal; punctuate epithelial keratitis with accompanying conjunctivitis. Gram stain of corneal epithelial scrapes revealed microsporidial spores in all cases. Treatment started after debridement and included topical fluoroquinolones. CONCLUSION: Microsporidial keratoconjunctivitis should be considered in differential diagnosis of atypical punctuate epithelial keratitis associated with conjunctivitis and can be diagnosed by routine microbiological methods. The disease can occur in healthy indivisuals and outcome of treatment is satisfactory.
