It is a prospective study of 30 patients in a tertiary care centre with meibomitis who underwent complete ophthalmic evaluation and were graded using Meibomian gland dysfunction grading and dry eye severity score and were given recommended staged therapy.
Patients with symptoms of meibomitis and dry eye were subjected to
Slit lamp evaluation, Schirmer’s test ,tear film break up time.
Patients were then divided into 4 groups based on increasing severity from 1to 4 for treatment purpose.
Group 1: lid hygiene (LH), warm compression (WC) and lubricating eyedrops (LE).
Group 2: LH, WC, LE and antibiotic ointment (AO).
Group 3: LH, WC, LE, AO and omega 3 fatty acids (O3).
Group 4: LH, WC, LE, AO and capsule doxycycline .
Patients were followed up for review as advised.
All patients with meibomitis had dry eyes which got resolved with treatment of meibomitis. At the end of 3 months group 1 showed 100% , group 2 – 80% , group 3 – 60% and group 4 – 50% improvement in dry eye and MGD.
