AIM:Clinical efficacy of canalicular laceration repair with 22G IV Canula (veinflon)
Method:Prospective study of 24pts M:F( 3:1), age 34±16, having canalicular injury who attended RIO between Dec 2016 & Dec 2017.History,site of injury, associated ocular injuries noted. Time elapsed between injury and repair was 4hrs to 2 days. Insertion of 22G IV canula as a monocanalicular stent was tried in all pt during primary repair in lower canalicular injury. Post OP results analysed.Pts followed up for 6months
Results: Among 24 eyes,16(66%)had lower,6(25%)upper & 2(8%) had bicanalicular laceration. Out of 16 pt, 10 pts had medial canthal injury within 5mm of lower punctum involving canaliculus(63%). In them IV canula insertion was possible during the repair. Duration of stent was 8-10wks. Spontaneous extrusion of stent in 2pt(20%).Syringing was patent in 8 pts after 6month of follow up(80%)
Conclusion:IV canula can be used as an suitable alternative to silicon tube for canalicular repair
